Smart Maritime Group to Manufacture Thickeners Worth UAH 175 Million for Southern GOK

Smart Maritime Group (Kherson) has been named a winner in the tender of Southern GOK (Southern Iron Ore Enrichment Works, Krivoy Rog) for the manufacture of basic elements of radial thickeners*.

The value of the contract will amount to UAH 175 million.

Company’s specialists will manufacture and supply to the customer the following metal structures: three vats with a support base, unloading cones and drain chutes to them. The diameter of each vat will be 62 meters, the height – 10.9 meters, and the total weight of the metal structures will be above 2 thousand tons.

The engineering design was made by Engineering Dobersek GMBH (Monchengladbach, Germany).

The thickeners will be installed on the new hydro-technical facility as part of the reconstruction project for one of the GOK's tailing dumps. Their installation will help the company significantly reduce its energy costs associated with the processing of slime water.

It is expected that contractual operations will be completed by January 2019.

Successful experience of cooperation with Mariupol iron and steel works (Metinvest) has shown that the qualification and expertise of our experts in the manufacture of metal structures meet the highest requirements. We believe in the revival of shipbuilding in Ukraine, but now, in conditions of negative market environment, shipbuilders have to look for alternative points of growth. Machinery/engineering orders for companies of mining and steel-making sector, alternative energy sector, construction industry develop new competencies of shipbuilders, bring positive effect for the profitability of shipyards, and make it possible to implement social projects," said Vasiliy Fedin, General Director of Smart Maritime Group.

* Radial thickener is a special equipment intended for condensation and desliming of slurry, clarification and treatment of circulating water, solutions and suspensions.
